UCWGA and COVID-19 Response in Athens
The UGA chapter of UCWGA is a proud member of Athens Mutual Aid Network (AMAN) a
coalition of Athens organizations and community members coming together to supporting the
most vulnerable members of Athens in the COVID-19 epidemic. AMAN’s stated goals are to
“connect people with ongoing relief efforts, collect and distribute accurate information to our
community, and advocate for critical policy actions to address unmet needs.” UCWGA stands
alongside eleven other local organizations including Athens for Everyone, Athens Immigrant
Rights Coalition, the Linnentown Project, and Athens Queer Collective to assure that all
residents of Athens get the support they need during this public health crisis.
AMAN joined UCWGA in calling on the Board of Regents and President Morehead to provide
paid leave to workers. In a union victory, UGA announced it was issuing Non-Closure
Emergency Paid leave to full-time and part-time employees on March 24th. This past week,
UCWGA supported AMAN by calling in to the Sheriff to release as many detainees from our
local jail as possible. Volunteer and donate with AMAN today to support neighbors in need!
