UCWSE Committees

United Campus Workers of Georgia is a division of United Campus Workers Southeast (UCWSE), Local 3821 of Communications Workers of America, an international union affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

Our members are encouraged to join and participate in UCWSE standing committees, which include:

For information about getting involved with UCWSE committees, please contact a member of the UCWSE Local Executive Board or the UCW-GA Steering Committee. More information about UCWSE committees can be found in the UCWSE Bylaws.

UCW-GA is the Georgia unit of UCWSE

Our members use lots of different words for "what UCW-GA is"—a unit, a "statewide", or simply our union—but to clarify:

  • United Campus Workers of Georgia is a division of of CWA Local 3821, United Campus Workers Southeast.
    • In CWA, such divisions are typically called bargaining units and represented by a member of the Local Executive Board (LEB).
    • Georgia's LEB representative serves on the Georgia Steering Committee as an ex officio member.
    • Since our State Legislature prevents public sector workers in Georgia from collectively bargaining for fair pay and decent working conditions, it may not make sense to call UCW Georgia a bargaining unit. But when connecting with others in CWA and in other unions, saying "our unit" will probably make more sense to them than "our statewide".
  • In United Campus Workers Southeast's Bylaws, Article V states the role of the Georgia Steering Committee in union governance:
    • to take action and make decisions in matters delegated by the membership or by the Local Executive Board.
